Title of the Talk/Lab :Characterization of Pluripotent Stem Cells by Flow Cytometry
Dr. Bipasha Bose obtained her Ph.D. degree in Applied Biology (Molecular Carcinogenesis) from Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer, Tata Memorial Centre, Navi Mumbai, India in 2004. She has about 17 years of post-PhD research experience working in Stem Cell Biology, in academia and industry in India, Belgium and Singapore. Dr Bose holds key skills in the field of clinical, as well as R and D grade stem cells. Her noted contributions to the field of regenerative medicine involve her cowork with the scientists for deriving human embryonic stem cells (hESC) for the first time from the Indian subcontinent, differentiation of hESC into functional insulin producing β islets and their pre-clinical translation, differentiation of hESC into functional hepatocytes. She has also contributed in the field of adult stem cell biology and proven the myogenic potential of aged muscle stem cells and perivascular mesenchymal stem cells, hepatocyte differentiation from Multipotent Adult Progenitor cells. Her contribution in the field of basic biology of stem cells has proven the pluripotent conversion of myostatin- null muscle stem cells without using reprogramming factors. She has contributed to several publications and book chapters as the lead author in the peer-reviewed journals and books of international repute. Dr. Bose also has two patents and 21 publications in PubMed indexed journal to her credit. Currently, Dr Bose is the In-charge of Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine Centre, Yenepoya Research Centre, Yenepoya University, Mangalore, India.
Her present focus is on establishing research in differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells into functional β cells using bioactive lipids, developmental aspects of CD34+ stem cells from various lineages, effect of thoron inhalation in lung stem cells, UV induced damages in ocular surface stem cells and cancer stem cell therapeutics using water soluble vitamins and Wharton’s jelly mesenchymal stem cells. Her present research group comprises of 6 PhD students whom she is guiding/Co-guiding.
Dr Bose’s PhD mentoring involves her area of expertise of basic biology of stem cells and stem cell therapy for diabetes, liver diseases and muscle disorder, and also various aspects of ocular stem cells and cancer stem cell therapeutics. Moreover, her teaching responsibility also involves teaching courses in Cell and Molecular Biology and Stem Cells and Developmental Biology for Master’s students. Dr Bose is also a reviewer for reputed journals and has received the “Top peer reviewer” award from Publons having reviewed highest number of papers in the area of Biology and Biochemistry in the year 2018 and 2019.
