Gunnur Deniz, graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Sciences, Department of Biology in 1985 and received her M.Sc. degree in Physiology in 1989. Between 1990-1994 she was granted by the Turkish Republic Higher Education Council (YÖK) with a PhD fellowship to study at the Department of Immunology, University of Liverpool and received her PhD degree in immunology in 1994. She is the chairman of the Immunology Department at Aziz Sancar Institute of Experimental Medicine (DETAE) since 2002, and has also been working as a President of Aziz sancar Institue of Experimental Medicine since 2016. She is the past president of the Turkish Society of Immunology. Most of her work is focused on functional and phenotypical characterization of NK cells.

Lecture: Flow Cytometry and Characterization of NK Cell response during Infectious Diseases: Natural killer (NK) cells are lymphocytes of the innate immune system that can recognize and kill various types of malignant cells and virus infected cells. NK cells were originally described as lymphocytes of the innate immune system capable of eliminating tumor and infected cells without prior antigen exposure. Flow cytometry is a rapid method for monitoring of NK cells, NK cell subsets and NK cytotoxic activity.  In this lecture, we will discuss flow cytometric methods for phenotypic detection and functional analysis of NK cells by flow cytometry.
