Subramanian following his medical school at Medical College Trivandrum, Kerala, India obtained his MD from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, India (1999) in Pathology. He has worked as a Senior Resident in PGIMER Chandigarh India and at Tata Memorial Hospital at Mumbai India. Currently He is Professor in Pathology at Tata Memorial Hospital. His Interests are in Hematolymphoid Neoplasms molecular testing and Flow cytometry. He also a Past President of The Cytometry Society (TCS) of India
